Steph says: “The fact that we’re supporting people in our local community, there’s a really good feeling when you come to work and I’m glad that I’m part of it.”
How does a normal day start? Strong coffee and a scan of the diary to see what the day has in store.
What is your role? I’m responsible for looking at the bigger picture and working with our people to join up the dots and ensure our work is helping the organisation to deliver its priorities.
Why did you join Staffordshire County Council? I live in Stafford and my daughter goes to school here and the opportunity was just too good to pass up!
What might people not know about working in the council? How many different roles we have here and scope of the work we undertake as an Organisational Development Consultant.
What does your typical day look like? Talking to people, asking questions and understanding what is really going on. Thinking creatively, analysing data, researching, designing and implementing.
What is your most memorable moment? Performing a rap about smart working at our first Christmas conference.
What is the worst part of your job? Never enough hours in the day.
What is the best part of your job? The people I work with are fabulous, the work is really satisfying and the work life balance is amazing!
What would you be doing if you didn’t work here? I’d probably be a radio presenter (well that was the original dream).
What advice would you give someone considering a career in organisational development? Be open minded and adaptable and keep yourself current, as the workplace is changing so rapidly you need to keep abreast of the impact of things like technology and flexible working.
